Firefighters rescued three people from a burning apartment unit in southwest Houston after someone threw a flaming object into the living room of the second-floor home.
Three residents were inside the unit around 4:30 a.m. Wednesday when firefighters arrived to the unit at El Gran Sol Apartments on Walnut Bend near Richmond Avenue.
After firefighters found light smoke coming from the unit and determined the three residents were trapped, they placed ladders beneath the windows and helped the residents climb down the ladders and onto the ground. None of the residents were hurt.
Almost 60 firefighters were able to work together and put out the fire within 20 minutes of arriving. They contained the fire to the front balcony and front window of the unit.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, but residents told firefighters that someone, possibly a relative, threw a burning object into the front window of the home and that one of their vehicles was recently set on fire.
