After watching his defense give up 123 points in Texas Southern's first three games, Tigers head coach Darrell Asberry fired defensive coordinator Kevin Ramsey.
Ramsey was TSU's interim head coach last season and the Tigers had a 4-7 record.
Asberry told FOX 26 Sports Ramsey has been replaced by TSU secondary coach Greg Johnson.
Through three games the Tigers are 1-2.
TSU opened the season with a 44-41 win over Prairie View, but has since lost two straight and the Tigers were outscored 82-42.
"I did make that decision today," Asberry said. "I like Coach Ramsey.
"There are no hard feelings between Coach Ramsey and I. I just felt we just had to go in a different direction. I have nothing negative to say about Coach Ramsey.
"We wish him well."
Ramsey was in his fourth season at Texas Southern and the only holdover from the previous staff.
He was the Tigers' defensive coordinator in 2009 and in 2010 when Texas Southern won the SWAC Championship, their first outright conference title in the history of the

"It's been great while I've been here. The accomplishments that I had here over four years have probably been the best in my career.
"For us winning a championship and taking a defense that was (ranked) 104th when I first got here, and we went from 104 to 21, and from 21 to back-to-back No. 1 in total
defense in all of America (Football Championship Subdivision). That's going to be tough to top.
