GALVESTON, Texas (FOX 26) -

The ship has come in at the Port of Galveston, but this is no pleasure cruise. The USS Fort Worth will be commissioned on Saturday in Galveston.

A combat ship, named for the 17th largest city in the U.S. and the fifth largest city in Texas, the USS Fort Worth is sponsored by U.S. Rep. Kay Granger from the 12th Congressional District of Texas.

The USS Fort Worth will be open to the public from Tuesday, Sept. 18 until Thursday, Sept. 20 between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. each day. Visitors are encouraged to wear "comfortable closed-toed shoes" and carry as very few items on board as possible. Each visitor will undergo a security screening process before boarding the ship.

After the USS Fort Worth is commissioned in Galveston on Saturday, the ship will travel to San Diego, Calif. which will serve as the home port of the U.S. Navy combat ship.
