Houston (Fox 26)--- The Houston Fire Department is working at 3 alarm fire at Gulf Stream Marine's Greensport terminal which started around 12:30 Saturday afternoon.  The warehouse facility is located near I-10 and Industrial Road in the Ship Channel area in East Harris County.

Houston Haz-Mat and Harris County Haz-Mat crews are also on the scene. At this time no shelter in place order has been give.  However, the smoke from the fire is very thick and black.

According to calls into the Fox26 newsroom, the smoke plume could be seen for miles.

Early reports into Fox 26 indicate the fire may have started with a forklift and quickly spread to other highly flammable materials.  However, the official cause of the fire is still under investigation.

According to Gulf Stream Marine's website, the Greensport terminal is used for large project cargoes and steel shipments.

The website describes facilities at the terminal as:

  • 75,000 sq. ft warehouse capacity
  • 22 acres of open air storage for container and project cargo

At this time it is not clear exactly where in the warehouse the fire started or where it could have spread.
