Republican Party big-wigs are trying to convince a Missouri Senate candidate to withdraw from the race after his controversial remarks on rape and abortion.

Todd Akin has apologized for claiming the bodies of what he called "legitimate rape" victims can shutdown and avoid pregnancy.

Akin has until 5 p.m. Tuesday to withdraw from the race.

Texas Senator John Cornyn is among prominent Republicans trying to convince akin to get out.
