5-year-old boy walking, talking after vicious attack, CPS says

Posted: Updated:
HOUSTON (FOX 26) -

Child Protective Services is calling him a miracle: a five-year-old boy is walking and talking after a vicious attack at his Magnolia home.

In March, investigators say Michael Spurlock nearly died after his mom stomped on him, slashed his throat, and repeatedly stabbed him at their home.

Daphne Spurlock was arrested and is charged with injury to a child.  CPS says she has had no contact with Michael since his attack.

In the meantime, there's hope Michael will get to go to kindergarten.  CPS has set two goals for him:

-- Relatives to have conservatorship
-- Michael's dad should have regular contact with him

Daphne remains in jail.  If convicted, she could get 99 years in prison.
