Homicide investigators have confirmed that a 1-year-old child has died after a shooting in northwest Houston.
The shooting took place around 3 a.m. Sunday on Ponnell Lane near DeWalt Street.
"Two hooded males," one who was seen carrying a long gun, were running on Ponnell Lane as a dark-colored sport utility vehicle was approaching when gunshots were fired, said Sgt. P. Jewell with the Houston Police Homicide Division.
The child was shot and taken to Texas Children's Hospital where the baby was later pronounced dead.
Detectives are meeting with the other people who were inside the vehicle that the child was seated in when the shooting took place. The baby was in an infant car seat.
