Bank robbery suspect shot in Pearland

Life Flight medical helicopter has been dispatched to Pearland where police have reported a bank robber has been shot.

The robbery attempt took place around 1:30 p.m. Friday at Capital Bank on West Broadway Street near Hillhouse Road in Pearland.

An off-duty Houston police officer observed a male wearing all black clothing and a mask as he carried a shotgun and walked toward the bank, a Pearland Police Department spokesman has confirmed.

After the off-duty officer contacted 911, two Pearland police cars arrived to the bank. When the suspect ran toward his vehicle while holding the shotgun, Pearland police fired gunshots at the suspect, who was wounded twice. The suspect was shot in the lower abdomen and upper leg.

The suspect in the robbery was taken by Life Flight to Memorial Hermann Hospital - Texas Medical Center around 2 p.m. Friday.
