One person was killed and another remains hospitalized, fighting for his life after an overnight shooting in Surprise.
Police say they received a call about shots fired around 1 a.m. and when they arrived at the scene near Grand and Greenway Road, they found the victims.
"Upon arrival, officers located two male subjects on the ground inside a residence," said Sgt. Michael Donovan of the Surprise Police Department. "Multiple wounds..one of them was later pronounced deceased, the other one was flown out to a local area hospital in critical condition.
A neighbor in the area, Rebecca Barriatos, told FOX 10's Diane Ryan that the homeowner has a permit to grow medical marijuana in the home and worries about the area.
"I have two small children..I worry about my kids..my brother and sister live with us, they got three small children..you know, that's five kids we gotta worry about," she said. "Can they play outside..do they need to be kept inside their whole life..so it's making me think, should be stay or should we go?"
"We used to rent from him, he's a very good guy, he's kind hearted, works like everybody else, tries to pay his bills like everybody else," she said. "Hopefully, everything's okay, he's okay...I'm worried about him."
Neighbors say this is the second shooting in two days in the area, but police don't believe the cases are related.
While authorities haven't identified a suspect in Monday's shooting, they say they believe a 30-year-old man is responsible for a Sunday night shooting near Grand and Dysart Road that also sent a 26-year-old man to an area hospital in critical condition.
In that case, police are searching for Darren Crockett, who is a black male, 6-feet tall, with a thin build, bald and has green eyes.
None of the victims' names have been released by the police.
