Donation Day honors deputy who donated 73 gallons of blood

HOUSTON (FOX 26) -

The Harris County Sheriff's Office's first annual "Donation Day" honored a retired deputy known for his generosity.

Retired Senior Deputy Jess Vickery passed away from brain cancer on July 17.

Over more than 25 years, he donated blood 581 times, which equals about 73 gallons of blood.

Monday, blood donors had a chance to register to become marrow, organ, eye and tissue donors.
