The Unabashed Blogorrhea shaking and stirring while revving for Rocketball's D-Day. Draft night with Dr. Daryl and how all the moves eventually play out and all the pieces come to fit together.
First and foremost, the draft is all about acquiring talent (read: assets) and not so much filling voids or addressing needs. Morey seems to understand this more than 95% of the Association's other decision makers.
Brooks turns into Dragic. Landry turns into Martin. Donte Greene turns into Artest who (essentially) turns into Ariza who turns into Lee. Parsons turns into a rookie rotation player. Budinger turns into a first-rounder that aids and abets moving further up the current draft board.
You know the list.
Patterson and Morris have not paid the proper dividends yet for a different variety of reasons. But Morley's batting average here is strong. And now can he finally hit the home run, whether it's Dwight Howard (grand slam for a season, maybe) or the fifth or so selection in the draft.
Critical question and consideration – if Morey swing and hits the seats for Howard and he knows he will without doubt not sign after his one Rocketball season and he's coming off back issues, how hard and strong is he busting it for an outfit he's counting down the days to leave? Will he simply stair-step to absolute full strength for the franchise he longs for (for today anyway)? What if Dr. Daryl spills the assets to get Dwight and Howard gives a time-table for return at January 1. Just because he can. What if you don't even get the full-season of Howard for a deep playoff run because he just isn't in the mood?
But Morey's swinging for the fences. Time will quickly tell. The shot clock in ticking.
Other quick dribbles into the picking and choosing …
Second-best career after Anthony Davis – Bradley Beal.
Second-best offensive threat after Beal – Dion Waiters.
Guys who are scary, in the wrong ways – Perry Jones, J'Covan Brown, John Henson.
Value picks for when they'll likely be grabbed – Kim English, Royce White, Jae Crowder, Darius Johnson-Odom, suddenly Jared Sullinger (risk/reward with bad back).
Red Flag Special - Andre Drummond. Could get fired if you take him. Or fired if you don't.
No lotto luck here –Damian Lillard and Harrison Barnes. And Kendall Marshall.
Best career for a guy not drafted - Marcus Denmon.
