Harris County homicide detectives are investigating an apparent murder/suicide in Northwest Harris County.
It happened just before 6:30 a.m. Monday in a home on River Pines Drive in Cypress, Texas.
Sgt. Felipe Rivera says the first word of trouble at the home came from the woman's 9-1-1 call.
"While en route to the call, they updated the call with shots fired. There was a female saying she was shot," Sgt. Rivera said during a live interview on FOX 26 Morning News Extra.
Rivera says when deputies arrived at the home, they had to force their way in. That's when they found the woman lying on the living room floor. They found her husband shot in a downstairs bedroom, the same room as the gun. Both were pronounced dead at local hospitals.
Rivera estimated the couple was in their early 60s and that they were the only people in the home at the time of the shooting.
Detectives are interviewing family members to try to determine a possible motive.
