Every Monday and Friday I'm answering your tech questions on FOX 26 News at 5 p.m. Today's questions: Why won't computer stop displaying updates for .NET Framework? How do I stop these I.E. error messages?
--------------------
FROM ECHO G. IN SPLENDORA:
My Windows 7 keeps saying I need to update my ".NET Framework," but when I go to the updates website it says I already have it. How do I fix this?
ANSWER:
Echo -- this sometimes happens when programs or updates are interrupted during installation. Don't forget your Windows Control Panel isn't just about adding/removing programs, but you can also "change" or "repair" an installation. Go to your add/remove list of programs and look for the .NET Framework installation and click the "Uninstall/change" button. Don't uninstall it -- there should be an option to "Repair" it. Hope this works for you! ALSO: Check out the new Microsoft .NET Framework repair tool

FROM CHIP:
When surfing the web my computer and my girlfriend's computer frequently say "Internet Explorer has stopped working." It's done it for years -- since my computer was new. How can I fix this?
ANSWER:
Chip this, unfortunately, is a common problem. In fact, it's a problem we've had with our computers at FOX 26. Here are a few steps everyone can take if they have issues with their web browser...
>> Go to Microsoft Updates and make sure you're using the latest version of I.E. and all your software is updated
>> Reset your Internet Explorer settings -- this pretty much re-installs it. Look for this in "TOOLS" ... "INTERNET OPTIONS" and then click the "ADVANCED" tab
>> Scan your computer for malware and viruses
There are no guarantees that will get this to work, so if you don't like the end result, don't be afraid to switch to Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox. I'll tell you the later version of Internet Explorer (8 and 9) don't seem to have this issue anymore, however.
