The Houston Burlesque Revue troop is ready to make you sweat. They are making our record summer even hotter.
Tonight is their inaugural performance at the Bayou Music Center downtown-formerly the Verizon Wireless Theatre.
They're paired up with a live band which I'm told is pretty unique and the ladies promise a sizzling sweet treat for everyone.
"Burlesque is love. It's love of yourself, of others, of music, entertainment, glitter, glitz and glam," said St. Stella.
"When I came home from Vegas, I really thought Houston needs a burlesque troop, there were a few others here and we wanted to bring glamour and technical dancing to the burlesque scene," said Lady Jae.
For just over a year now, the Houston Burlesque Revue troop has teased and pleased audiences at a number of festivals, smaller venues and private events but nothing like tonight's inaugural performance at downtown Houston's Bayou Music Center.
"Tonight people are going to see a mix of rock and roll from the 50's and today, mixed with traditional burlesque with technical dance skills," said Lady Jae,
And it's those technical dance skills that Lady Jae says, sets her girls apart.
"We are all classically trained ballet dancers, modern technical dancers, most of us are graduates of High School for the Visual and Performing Arts here in Houston, we really want to show our ballet lines and pretty technique as well as tease the audience a little bit," said Lady Jae.
But don't dare put these girls in the same category as strippers. They may tease, but they don't strip … completely.
"There is a purity about it and an underlying wholesomeness, I know that sounds weird, but there is and that really drew me in. With the baby, it just got me out of the house, it got me out of the house, meet people, physically active again because I hadn't danced in like 5 years and I wanted my flexibility and stamina back," said St. Stella.
Oh, I'd say this new mother and wife got it back alright.
Along with the other ladies, St. Stella is embracing her beauty and sexuality and giving Houston a burlesque fever along the way.
"We do this to make other people feel joy and feel good about themselves and their relationships and hopefully put some spice into all the couples sitting in the audience, that's my goal," said Lady Jae.
