HOUSTON (FOX 26) -

A three-year-old boy was killed in an auto accident on the Sam Houston Tollway in northwest Houston.

Houston TranStar reports the accident happened around 2:29 p.m. Friday on the southbound lanes of the West Sam Houston Tollway at Central Plaza.

The Harris County Precinct 5 Constable's Office says the victim was in car headed southbound on the "Cash Only" lane.  For some reason, the driver decided to take the "EZ Tag" lane, swerving across the Tollway.

An oil tank truck, also heading southbound, hit the car from behind.  The victim was killed and his mom and dad were injured.  Both were taken to the hospital.

The accident shut down three mainlanes and a shoulder in both directions.  SkyFOX aerial images showed the red car smashed against the concrete barrier.  Crews were preparing to tow both it and the oil tank truck.
