This week's Predator Check is in search of a convicted sex offender who has demonstrated he has no intention of letting authorities keep tabs on him. There's a reward for his arrest.
Take a good look at 69-year-old Johnny Fontaina III. He's 5-foot-11 and weighs 140-pounds. He has scars on his left wrist and right arm and shoulder.
In 1991, he was convicted of 'sexual assault of a child.'
Fontaina's last-known address was on the 2300-block of Austin in midtown Houston near San Jacinto and McGowen, but police say it's been a while since he's lived there.
Johnny registered as a sex offender after his release from a 10-year prison sentence for raping a 15-year-old girl, but when he didn't keep up with registration, he was sentenced to prison, again. After his release in January, it appears he's done it again.
"He knew about the law when he was released from prison for the initial offense of 'sexual assault of a child," says Katherine Cabaniss with Houston Crime Stoppers. "He knows about the law because he failed to register once before and was charged and convicted. We know that when he was released, that time, he was told that he has to comply. We know, again, that he has failed. He is simply not going to do it, and another warrant has issued."
Fontaina is required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
If you know where to find this man, Crime Stoppers will pay a reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to his arrest. You can call anonymously -- 713-222-TIPS.
