If you want authentic Chinese food, you have to head to Chinatown, right?
Not anymore. A new restaurant, E-Tao, strives to bring the real deal to Houston, but it's located in The Galleria.
Toronto native Edmund Mo thought Houston's Chinese restaurants were good, but not great.
Mo opened E-Tao to cater to the Galleria's international clientele, especially those staying at the Westin Galleria Hotel, he told food blogger Mai Pham.
His Canadian company trained local chefs to prepare dishes that evoke the flavors from Chinese and pan-Asian cuisine.
The "Soup Dumpling" is one of the restaurant's specialties.
Each dumpling is hand-crafted with dough. Its pork filling releases a soup when it is steamed.
Eating the dumpling involves a special procedure:
-- Bite a tiny hole in the wrapper
-- Slurp out the soup
-- And eat the rest
