This week's Predator Check is in search of a convicted sex offender, who is accused of hiding rather than telling authorities where he can be found.
Take a good look at Jose Lopez, 45. He stands 5-foot-10 and weighs 216-pounds.
In 1998, he was convicted of 'indecency with a child.’
Jose Lopez' last-known address was on the 7500-block of Gardner Street. That's on Houston's north side between North Main and I-45.
He registered there more than a year ago as a sex offender after he received five years probation for indecently touching a 12-year-old girl.
Lopez is supposed to re-register every year on his birthday, but police say he's dropped out of sight.
“Probation on an 'indecency with a child' case -- it is a contract you make with the court to avoid prison,” says Katherine Cabaniss with Houston Crime Stoppers. “This type offense, 'failing to register,' just, very simply, failing to give your residential address, indicates that you’re just not going to comply with the law."
Even after his probation, Jose Lopez is required to register as a sex offender -- for life.
If you know where to find this man, Crime Stoppers will pay up to $5,000 for information that leads to his arrest. You can call anonymously at 713-222-TIPS.
