Did you know you can get the best cookies in the South right here in Houston? And if you buy them for Valentine's Day, you can also help out a good cause.
Eater.com Houston editor Amber Ambrose sat down to talk to local pastry chef Rebecca Masson, whose cookies were recently named Best in the South by Southern Living magazine.
Masson, who recently competed on Top Chefs - Just Desserts, makes baked goods that have a national reputation.
The cookie that won her accolades from Southern Living is her Fluffer Nutter -- peanut butter and marshmallow sandwiched between two peanut butter oatmeal cookies.
Some of her other top sellers are her ginger snap cookies and her snicker doodles.
Masson says the secret ingredient in her ginger snaps is (vegetarians, don't read this part!) bacon fat.
Every year as Valentine's Day nears, Masson helps out the Lucky Dog Rescue organization by putting together cookie packages that you can buy through Lucky Dog's website. Proceeds from the sale go to help the group save and adopt out abandoned dogs.
