HOUSTON (AP) — Former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich is appearing in Houston amid talk that he's making final preparations to run for president.
Gingrich and his wife, Callista, were set to attend a viewing of his most recent documentary at a Catholic school in Houston on Wednesday evening. A spokesman said the event isn't open to the public.
An attorney for Gingrich has said the 67-year-old Republican would announce the formation of an exploratory committee soon. The former Georgia congressman was scheduled to meet Thursday in his home state with Gov. Nathan Deal, a key supporter.
Gingrich co-produced a documentary called "Nine Days that Changed the World" that details Pope John Paul II's role in defeating communism. The film was released last year. A former Baptist, Gingrich converted to Catholicism in 2009.
