A local man is on trial for allegedly breaking into BARC - the city’s animal shelter - just five days after appearing on FOX 26 News accusing BARC of killing his dog.
Brian Simon is charged with burglary. Police say he stole a computer and other items from the shelter after cutting a hole in the fence.
BARC’s general manager tells us, the intruder’s escapades were captured on surveillance video.
And when shelter employees viewed the footage, they immediately figured out the suspect’s identity.
“Recognized him instantly from the TV segment from Fox News ,” says BARC’s David Atencio. “And (it was) obvious who it was when he came in, you could see it clear as day.”
Last May, Simon told FOX 26 Investigates reporter Randy Wallace that his lost Chihuahua was accidentally euthanized by BARC.
The shelter disputes that, maintaining the animal that was euthanized was not Simon’s dog.
A jury is expected to begin deliberating Brian Simon’s guilt or innocence on the burglary charge, Thursday morning.
