NASSAU, Bahamas (AP) - The tip of Florida is under a tropical storm warning as Bonnie -- with sustained winds of 40 miles per hour -- heads into the Gulf of Mexico and its oil-stained waters.

At last report, the storm was about 80 miles southeast of Miami. It's expected to reach the Gulf of Mexico by tomorrow.

The system is expected to bring heavy winds and rains to the Florida Keys, but emergency officials say they're not planning any mandatory evacuations since they don't expect a major storm surge.

Bonnie's current track would take it across the spill toward Louisiana. That's forced a pause in work at the wellhead as well as skimming efforts. It's possible the storm could gain strength over the Gulf.
