(NewsCore) - Actor David Boreanaz, who stars in TV series “Bones”, confirmed Monday he had an extra-marital affair after his former mistress demanded money to keep quiet about the relationship, Radar Online reported.
The former “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” star did not name the woman he slept with but Star magazine reported that it was Tiger Woods’ ex-mistress Rachel Uchitel, 35.
The affair was revealed in a Star cover story shortly before the same magazine and the National Enquirer broke the story of Uchitel’s affair with Woods, 34.
It was also revealed that his wife of nine years Jaime Bergman, 34, was pregnant at the time of the affair with Uchitel.
While Boreanaz, 40, would not confirm the identity of his mistress he confessed Monday: "She asked for money. I felt as though I was being blackmailed ...," he told People magazine.
Entertainment website TMZ reported he met up with the woman "2 or 3 times".
The website also dismissed reports the mistress was Uchitel.
Sources said Boreanaz started paying her several thousand dollars but she began demanding more, threatening to go public with the affair.
Boreanaz then confessed the affair to his wife.
The woman then hired high-profile U.S. lawyer Gloria Allred and reportedly demanded six figures to stop the mistress going to the media.
After taking legal advice the actor decided to go public with his infidelity, refusing to pay the mistress another cent.
"Our marriage has been tainted with my infidelities," the actor told People. "I just want to be open and honest. I was irresponsible."
