CYPRESS, Texas - A teen was able to escape her burning home and firefighters rescued a cat from the house after they say lightning from a thunderstorm caused the Cypress-area fire.

Firefighters from the Cy-Fair Volunteer Fire Department arrived around 9:15 p.m. Wednesday to the home on Groveland Hills Drive near Benbrook Manor Lane and found heavy flames shooting through the roof.

The fire spread from the attic of two-story brick house to a second-floor bedroom. The flames never reached the first floor of the home.

The 17-year-old girl, who was alone inside the house when the lightning struck, was able to run out of the home and contact 911. Her parents arrived shortly after the lightning strike.

Two firefighters were hurt battling the fire and were taken to Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center Hospital in stable condition. One of them fell from a rafter and suffered a leg injury while the other firefighter was treated for smoke inhalation.
