HOUSTON - Several Houston area businesses and schools are closed and others will have delayed openings due to Tuesday morning's heavy rains.

A strong group of thunderstorms moved through the region in the early morning hours, leading to flash flooding and tornado warnings.

The heaviest flooding was reported on the northwest and west sides of town where there were some reports of cars fully submerged and high water rescues. No injuries have been reported.

The American Red Cross has opened the following two shelters in northwest Harris County for flood-affected residents:

-- Copperfield Church, 8350 North Highway 6, Houston, TX 77095 (can hold 540 people)
-- Creek United Methodist Church, 16000 Rippling Water, Houston, TX 77084 (can hold 300 people)

Several school districts, including Houston ISD, tell FOX 26 News they will delay Tuesday's TAKS testing by one day.

Rain is expected again on Tuesday afternoon with a 50 percent chance, but FOX 26 Meteorologist Kristi Powers says it is really uncertain if flooding wil occur again.

Officials say if you don't have to be on the road, stay indoors as the flood waters receed.
