Road crews are preparing to allow traffic to pass through a section of Interstate 10, the East Freeway, after an early morning wet road accident involving an 18-wheeler truck in northeast Houston.
The cargo truck was traveling westbound on the East Freeway before 3 a.m. Friday when investigators say the female driver lost control of the truck and caused it to jackknife. The truck crashed into a guardrail and then into support column of the Jensen Drive bridge.
The driver died on impact.
Another driver who was traveling in a UPS delivery truck said the cargo truck was traveling at least 60 mph before the driver lost control of the vehicle.
The westbound lanes of the East Freeway were completely closed at U.S. Highway 59.
FOX 26 News has learned that the cargo truck was carrying a load of chips and salsa.
