HOUSTON - Two drivers are involved in separate road accidents in eastern sections of Houston with one crash ending fatally.
The first accident took place after 12 a.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Cullen Boulevard and Airport Boulevard. Investigators say a Pontiac G6 was traveling southbound on Cullen Boulevard when the driver lost control of the car and veered off the road and over the sidewalk.
The car crashed into a concrete retaining wall near Sims Bayou and the driver died from his injuries.
Witnesses who were traveling behind the Pontiac G6 say the driver was traveling at a high rate of speed. An autopsy will be conducted on the male driver to determine if alcohol consumption was a factor in the accident.
At approximately 3 a.m. Wednesday, a car was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of Collingsworth Street when the driver caused the car to veer off the road suddenly and he crashed the car into several concrete pillars that were protecting some pipes that were in the ground.
Rescuers had to cut through the car to remove the driver, who was trapped since the car landed on its side. The driver was taken to Ben Taub General Hospital in stable condition.
