HOUSTON - Investigators are trying to determine why a young boy, who was later pronounced dead at Texas Children's Hospital, was not in a car seat when the vehicle he was in was involved in an accident in northwest Houston.
The accident took place at approximately 1:45 p.m. on Saturday afternoon at the 11500 block of Northwest Freeway, the U.S. Highway 290 frontage road. A green Chevrolet C1500 pickup truck was traveling east on the Northwest Freeway frontage road as a white Mercury Grand Marquis was traveling north on Antoine Drive. Investigators say the driver of the Mercury passed the red traffic light and caused the accident.
Three other people were taken to hospital for injuries related to the crash. The boy, who was a passenger in the Mercury, was pronounced dead on Sunday.
The case will be referred to a Harris County grand jury.
