Husband Killed on Side of Eastex Freeway

Police say a husband was killed as he switched driver's seats with his wife on the shoulder of the Eastex Freeway overnight.

A pickup truck slammed into the back of their car around 4:30 a.m.

The man's wife says they stopped to switch drivers because her husband got tired as they made their way to Sugar Land. As her husband exited the vehicle, the truck crashed into them.

The driver of the truck told investigators he was on his way to work when he fell asleep.

Police do not believe alcohol was a factor in the crash, but they are going to test for drugs. The driver was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

The wife was not injured.
