Houston - Houston Texans quarterback Dan Orlovsky agreed to accept a pay cut after he jeopardized his position as Matt Schaub's back-up when he threw two interceptions in the final preseason game against Tampa Bay.

Since then the Texans signed free agent quarterback Matt Leinart to a one-year deal.

He is the team's third quarterback, but will compete with Orlovsky for the back-up spot.

Orlovsky was scheduled to make $2.25 million this year.

He will now make a base salary of $850,000.

The contract allows him to make up the money he lost in two ways.

As long as Orlovsky does not get demoted to third-string he will make an additional $25,000 a game.

If he becomes the starter Orlovsky can earn an additional $100,000 a game, with a maximum of $1 million in additional salary if he continues as the Texans' number one quarterback.

Next year, the final year of Orlovsky's contract, he was scheduled to make $2.75 million.

At the moment his base salary for 2011 is now $1.375 million.

If Orlovsky stays on the 45-man roster this week, which is expected, the second-year of his contract will go back to its orginal value.

Also, the Texans reached an injury settlement with kicker Kris Brown who they put on injured reserve after choosing to go with Neil Rackers as their kicker.

Brown has been suffering from plantar fasciitis in his right foot.

He is now a free agent..
