Houston - The Houston Texans are one of the teams who have an interest in former Arizona Cardinals quarterback Matt Leinart.
Leinart was released Saturday by the Arizona Cardinals.
He was never able to establish himself as a starter in the NFL after winning two national championships and the Heisman Trophy at USC.
It was initially thought Leinart would sign with the Seattle Seahawks because their head coach is Pete Carroll, Leinart's coach at USC.
However, there are a variety of national reports that indicate either the Seahawks have no interest in him or there is a split in the organization.
The Texans back-up quarterback situation became an issue after Dan Orlovsky threw two interceptions in the final preseason game to Tampa Bay.
The Texans do have a spot open on their 53-man roster after releasing Danny Clark.
The Texans did claim two players on waivers Sunday.
They are linebacker David Nixon from the Oakland Raiders and defensive back Jamar Wall from the Dallas Cowboys.
Nixon, who was born in College Station, played college football at BYU.
He signed with the Raiders after not being chosen in the 2009 NFL Draft and played in three games for Oakland during his rookie season.
Wall\, who is from Plainview, was taken by the Cowboys in the sixth-round of the 2010 NFL Draft out of Texas Tech.
The Texans have identified seven memers of their eight-man practice squad.
They are: center Brett Helms, Offensive tackle Cole Pemberton, defensive tackle Malcom Sheppard, linebacker Isaiah Greenhouse, safety Torri Williams, receiver Bobby Williams and runningback Chris Ogbonnaya.
Ogbonnaya played high school football at Strake Jesuit and college football at the University of Texas.
Sunday he was released by the St. Louis Rams who took him in the seventh-round of the 2009 NFL Draft.
Last season Ogbonnaya played in two games for the Rams with 11 carries for 50 yards. He also had 19 yards receiving on one catch.
