HOUSTON - The agent for Houston Texans safety Eugene Wilson doesn't believe the NFL's penalty handed out to Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre is harsh enough especially since he said Wilson injured his left knee and might not be able to play in the Texans season opener against the N.Y. Jets.
Favre was fined $10,000 by the league for his crackback block on Wilson during the Vikings preseason win over the Texans Monday night.
Sims does not believe the punishment fit the crime.
"Absolutely not," Sims said in an interview with FOX 26 Sports. "Certainly there have been similar blatant infractions like this where a player has received a one-game suspension which would have cost Favre a whole lot more money."
Sims said Wilson was looking to get an apology from Favre after the game and when that didn't happen Wilson hoped to receive an apology from Favre this week and that too didn't occur
"Eugene went back out on the field after the game hoping Favre would come up to him and apologize and express some concern and that didn't happen," said Sims. "Eugene then was hoping Favre would send him an apology through some sort of correspondence, but that hasn't happened either. Eugene is still Hopeful Favre will apologize to him."
Sims said his client is doing everything he can to get ready for the Texans season opener, but there are no guarantees.
"It's uncertain whether Eugene will be available for the season opener," Sims said. "He is really working hard toward that game."
Sims said he was not at liberty to discuss "the exact nature" of Wilson's injury.
After the game Favre said he was not trying to injure Wilson.
"I will be 40 years old in October and (was) weed-eating 13 days ago," Favre said in an interview with the Associated Press. "I wasn't thinking about throwing blocks."
