Houston - The newest Houston Rocket, seven-foot center Brad Miller, arrived at Bush I.A.H. late Monday afternoon.
Tuesday the Rockets will make it official. Miller has signed a three-year, $15 million contract with Houston.
Sought after by a number of teams on the free agent market, Miller said getting the opportunity to play for head coach Rick Adelman again was too much to pass up.
"Awesome," Miller told FOX 26 Sports. "I told my agent from the day the season was over Houston was where I wanted to be. I've been trying to get down here for, what Rick's been here four years, so about four years.
"It's been something I wanted to do."
Miller could have made more money elsewhere, but playing for Adelman and the Rockets won the day. Miller played for Adelman for three years in Sacramento when Adelman was the Kings head coach.
"You had offers high and you had offers low," Miller said. "I told my agent if we can get this I'll be more than happy down there no matter with the bigger offers.
"It's about being at a place being happy with my family. Basketball, it should take me about 20 minutes to understand the offense again. (I) remember the calls. Being familiar like that was a huge perk."
Miller is a 12-year veteran. Last season with the Chicago Bulls he averaged 8.8 points and 4.9 rebounds and played in all 82 games.
Along with being reunited with Adelman, Miller also looks forward to playing with Rockets guard Kevin Martin again.
The two spent five years together in Sacramento.
Martin told FOX 26 Sports by phone from New York the feeling is mutual.
"Yea that's my guy," Martin said. "He's a tremendous pick-up for our team. We feel like we are a top-four team in the West now with a healthy Yao Ming and a full roster.
"He's an Adelman-type player and that speaks highly enough right there."
Martin said Miller had a lot to do with his development as an NBA player.
"Along with (Lakers forward Ron) Artest he's a player that I always said got me where I am today and I think every young player in the league should have a chance to play with a guy like Brad because they learn how to play the right way.
"He's definitely a piece that with needed on this team."
