HOUSTON - Guard Rashad McCants is no longer with the Houston Rockets.
McCants was invited to the team's training camp to try and earn a spot on the roster.
However, McCants is not healthy enough to compete, so he was not signed to a contract.
"Unfortunately, Rashad is still recovering from an abdominal issue that woould have made it very difficult for him to earn a spot on our roster," said Daryl Morey, Rockets general manager, in a statement Tuesday night.
"We were looking forward to seeing him compete with the mix of guards we have in camp, but he simply would not have been completely healthy."
Morey acknowledged in his statement that McCants could be brought back at a later date when he is healthy.
"We are open to taking another look at him down the line when his condition improves," Morey said.
McCants split time last year between the Minnesota Timberwolves and Sacramento Kings.
He played his first three and a half years in the NBA with the Timberwolves.
During his career he has averaged 10 points, 2 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game.
