HOUSTON - David Kahn, Minnesota Timberwolves President of Basketball Operations, interviewed Houston Rockets assistant coach Elston Turner Monday as Kahn searches for a new head coach. The Timberwolves are looking for a replacement for Kevin McHale.
Turner said the interview, which "lasted a couple of hours," took place in Las Vegas where Turner is coaching the Rockets summer league team.
"I thought it was productive," Turner said in an interview with FOX 26 Sports. "We met and exchanged thoughts and ideas.
"I really enjoyed it."
Turner interviewed with the Phoenix Suns and the Sacramento Kings last year when they were looking for a new head coach.
"This lets you know the hard work you are putting in doesn't go unnoticed," Turner said. "You always work for any chance to move up in your field. That's what everyone wants to do in any field that they are in. Who wouldn't want to move up?"
Turner joined the Rockets when Rick Adelman was named head coach two years ago.
Prior to that Turner worked for Adelman for six years in Sacramento and before that he was with the Portland Trailblazers as an assistant coach for four years.
Turner's resume also includes an eight-year playing career in the NBA.
Turner said Kahn did not give him an indication when he would make a decision.
