HOUSTON - Major League Baseball sources told FOX 26 Sports Monday the Texas Rangers lost the rights to Klein High School pitcher Matt Purke, the team's number one draft pick in the 2009 First Year Player's draft in June.
The Rangers and Purke, the 14th overall choice in the draft, did not reach a contract agreement by the 11 p.m. deadline Monday night.
Purke had already signed to play college baseball at TCU which is where he will go for at least the next two years.
He is not eligible for the draft again until after his sophomore season.
