Holden to Try Out With English Team

HOUSTON - The contract between the Houston Dynamo and their star midfielder Stuart Holden will expire Thursday.

While Holden told FOX 26 Sports earlier this month he thought his contractual situation with the Dynamo would be settled by the end of the year, that is no longer the case.

Dynamo chief operating officer Chris Canetti told FOX 26 Sports Holden has thrown a wrinkle into the plans that will certainly delay the situation even longer.

"Stuart is going on trial with with Burnley, a club in the English Premier League," said Canetti. "What that means is he will train with Burnley and play in some of their reserve games and the team will then decide if it wants to sign Stuart."

Canetti said this doesn't mean the Dynamo and Holden are going their separate ways, but it does mean the Dynamo must start getting its roster ready for next year, regardless of what Holden decides to do.

"We want to sign Stuart," Canetti said. "That hasn't changed.

"We haven't looked at alternatives yet. Now that he is going to Burnley it is imperative that we take a hard look at potential replacements should he decide to leave the Dynamo."

Canetti said he is in the process of setting up a meeting with Holden that will take place in the next few days prior to him leaving for England.

Holden has not been available for comment.
