Five months after suffering a compound fracture in his right leg in a horrific accident while playing at Marshall, University of Houston receiver Patrick Edwards guaranteed he willl return next season and play for the Cougars.

Edwards also said he will take legal action against Marshall in the future.

"I am going to wait until next fall and see how well I come back," Edwards said in an interview with FOX 26 Sports.. "If I'm limited from the stuff that I used to do that I can't do then I am going to take (legal) action, but I am going to take action anyway. I'm just going to see how well I come back."

Edwards already believes he will better than ever and last year he was one of the top freshman receivers in college football.

"Patrick Edwards is coming back next season and I'm going to pick up where I left off." Edwards said in an interview with FOX 26 Sports. "I am going to be better than that because I've got confidence."

Confidence that for any athlete would have been clearly tested after what Edwards went through. Playing on the Thundering Herd's home field, Edwards ran into some metal carts parked at the back of the end zone. He suffered the broken leg on national television.

To help repair the leg a rod was inserted during surgery.

Marshall athletic director Bob Marcum said at the time the school was sorry for the accident and those carts would be removed for future games.

Edwards has been working with the Cougars during non-contact drills and had to watch from the sidelines Saturday while the team went through its spring football game.

"It's been kind of hard watching, but I know I am going to be back on the field next year so I'm glad of that," Edwards said.

Edwards will never forget what was going through his mind while he in was in the hospital after surgery.

"I was real worried because I was looking down at my leg thinking I wasn't going to be able to walk again, wasn't going to play again." Edwards said. "I was just thinking of the worst.

"It's amazing. I thank God everyday I can be able to walk."

Throughout his ordeal Edwards said Head Coach Kevin Sumlin has been there for him.

"He supported me," Edwards said. "I went up to his office and he talked to me and said if I need anything just come talk to him. He's got my back with everything."

Now Edwards want his coach to call his number next fall as many times as possible.
