NEW CANEY, Texas - Montgomery County Sheriff's deputies are trying to determine who is responsible for the attempted burglary of an ATM using a stolen forklift machine.

Deputies say at least one suspect broke into a hardware store early Friday morning, stole a forklift and drove it to the Wells Fargo Bank on Community Drive near the Eastex Freeway service road in New Caney.

The suspect(s) used the forklift to pick up the drive-through ATM and break it open by dropping it repeatedly from an elevated height. The burglary attempt failed since the ATM safe was intact and no money was stolen from it.

No suspects have been identified or arrested, but deputies will examine surveillance video from the bank.

Deputies learned of the burglary attempt after the suspect(s) activated an alarm at the bank.
