Sorry Boys, Girls to Claim Skate Park

Most days, the Jamail Skate Park is mostly males.

But not this Saturday. From 8 am to noon there will be "no boys allowed" at the downtown skate slab.

The event is billed as "Babes on Boards," featuring female skate pros. It is expected to attract girls from as far away as California.

The point is to give girl skaters a chance to carve and shred, without the intimidation factor of a bowl filled with boys.

Organizer Lori Peltier is hoping to instill her love of the board in girls who wouldn't otherwise give skateboarding a spin.
