HOUSTON - This week's Predator Check is in search of a 28-year-old man. Police say hes a convicted sex offender who has failed to maintain his whereabouts with the state. There's a reward if you know where to find him.
David Chapa stands 5-foot-11, weighs 180 pounds, and has tattoos on his neck, back and arms.
Last March, he was convicted in Fort Bend County of sexual assault of a child.
Chapa's last known address was an apartment on the 9700 block of South Gessner between Bissonnet and South Braeswood.
He registered there last October, as a sex offender, after being sentenced to 90-days in jail and 10-years probation for having sex with a 14 year-old girl.
When officers tried to check on him, they found Chapa had moved on without telling anybody.
"He was brought to justice on those charges and was given probation, a chance to rehabilitate himself, and a chance to continue living in our community with just some terms and conditions," says Katharine Cabaniss with Houston Crime Stoppers. "He couldn't abide by those terms and conditions, the least of which was to reside at a permanent address and tell us where that was."
David Chapa was charged with 'failure to register as a sex offender' last December and may still be in the Houston area.
If you know where to find this man, Crime Stoppers will pay up to $5,000 for information that leads to his arrest. You can call anonymously at 713-222-TIPS.
