HOUSTON - While we've heard Houston’s housing market has fared better than other parts of the country, the region is not without some financial pain.
Harris County has the highest number of foreclosures in the state, but the Houston Area Urban League has a “free opportunity” to help some homeowners find a deal they can better afford.
This weekend, the Urban League is partnering with mortgage giant Fannie Mae to help homeowners with financial difficulty meet with a trained counselor who can help identify options that will help them stay in their home.
Like similar events in the last couple of years, property owners will get a direct line of communication with people who can modify the terms of their loan to make their circumstances more affordable.
Homeowners who can prove financial hardship, and have a mortgage that is already owned by Fannie Mae, can start the conversation.
“We will take care of everything from that point forward. We'll make sure that we're interfacing on your behalf, with Fannie Mae, to make sure your loan gets negotiated as quickly as possible, so that you know where you stand,” said Judson Robinson, with HAUL. “A lot of people are just in limbo. They don’t know what to do."
The Foreclosure Prevention Event is Friday and Saturday at the Houston Area Urban League’s downtown offices at 1301 Texas.
