HOUSTON - October means cooler temperatures, planning for the holidays and Oktoberfest!

If you want to celebrate in style without traveling to Bavaria, you need to head to a Houston institution, Rudi Lechner's.

The German restaurant pulls out all the stops for Oktoberfest, with special beers, meals and music.

Oktoberfest grew from the wedding of Bavarian Prince Ludwig in October 1810, restaurant owner Rudi Lechner told blogger Maya Fasthoff.

The two-week-long party was so well-liked, it became an annual event.

At the restaurant, the foods include sausages, roast pork, potato pancakes, red cabbage and Wiener schnitzel.

The schnitzel is a pounded-out piece of veal that is breaded and fried. It is a delicacy in Germany and Austria.

And, of course, there are the special Oktoberfest beers.
