HUNTSVILLE, Texas - A massive forest fire west of Huntsville has claimed 1 home and threatening a dozen more.
The fire was reported around 1 p.m. Wednesday near Dickey Loop in Bedias, according to a Walker County representative.
Officials have evacuated about 12 homes near Hopewell Road to Scale Ranch Road.
The fire destroyed 1 home along with several outside structures.
No injuries have been reported.
So far, 500 acres have been burned as a result.
Several fire departments are at the scene, including the Texas Forestry Service. Fourteen tractor plows were dispatched to the fire.
Officials report the fire is 45 percent contained, but there are concerns it could flare up again.
The cause of the fire is not known.
