HOUSTON - An early-morning accident involving a pickup truck left a large hole in a northwest Houston home.

The accident took place before 2 a.m. Wednesday on Nina Lee Lane near West 43rd Street.

Investigators say the truck's driver lost control of the vehicle and smashed into a home. The truck plowed its way through the living room and back door before stopping in the backyard.

According to investigators, the home is no longer structurally sound and will likely be declared a complete loss.

Residents were said to be sleeping just feet from the vehicle's path, but no injuries were reported. According to the family, they had just purchased new furniture for the living room one month earlier.

"The house can be replaced. My roommate can't, my dog can't. That's all that's important to me right now," said one of the homeowners.

The accident left a gash on the driver's head. He was treated at the scene and arrested by Houston police on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.

A hazardous materials response team was also called to shut off the home's natural gas line after a leak was detected.
