HOUSTON - Prostitution on the streets of Houston is nothing new; however, what two women allegedly did out of a southeast Houston motel takes prostitution to a new level.
Police say Elizabeth Bufford, 55, and her daughter Alicia Melchor, 31, put someone on the streets to turn tricks. Investigators say it was Melchor's 14-year-old daughter and Bufford's granddaughter.
Investigators say when the girl was told to go out on the streets, she would bring the john back to room #19 at the motel. That room is also where the teen also lived with her mother and grandmother.
A clerk at the motel said he was not familiar with the tenants.
The owner, however, tells FOX 26 News the family of the young girl had been living at the motel for a week paying $30 to $40 a month. He says he put them out once he received complaints from other tenants who said there was traffic into their unit all times of the day.
On Tuesday, the Houston Police Department arrested Bufford and Melchor. The two women are charged with forcing a minor into prostitution. Prosecutors also say the mother and grandmother both have prior prostitution-related criminal records.
So why would the women force a 14-year-old girl to sell her body. Investigators say the pair needed the teen to earn money to help pay the bills.
