HOUSTON - It was the story of a U.S. Postal worker turned bandit.

Rodney Niel Harvey, 35, pleaded guilty to stealing public money back in June 3.

The former letter carrier was arrested following an investigation into a robbery at the Roy Royall Postal Station in the 4200 block of West Little York.

A postal worker on duty saw a masked man enter the building and steal an express mail pouch containing the office's remittance (bank deposit), investigators said.

The remittance contained over $15,000 in cash and checks.

Law enforcement agents recovered the mask, clothing and shoes used by the suspected robber in an adjacent forest.

Harvey was formally indicted on June 30 after investigators identified him as the robber.

Sentencing will begin on Oct. 13. Harvey could face a maximum of 10 years in prison and/or a $250,000 fine.

Harvey worked for the post office since 1998.
