Woman Missing after Jumping Off Party Boat

Deputy constables are conducting the search for a woman in Lake Conroe after a witness reported seeing her jump off a party boat, swim away then vanish.

Investigators with the Montgomery County Precinct 1 marine division arrived to the lake after 11 p.m. Monday along with a fire boat and the Lake Conroe Forest Fire boat to search for Augusta Marie Newmeyer, 23.

The operator for Just for Fun Watercraft Rental contacted Precinct 1 after learning that Newmeyer jumped off the barge which was anchored in the cove.

A witness told investigators that Newmeyer swam approximately 20 yards toward the Walden Yacht Club before she disappeared. Two crew members and 27 other guests were on the party boat when Newmeyer jumped off the boat.

A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter and fire department diver with search equipment were also used in the late-night search.

A missing persons report was filed for Newmeyer after investigators spoke with her roommate.
