HOUSTON - A car chase in northeast Houston came to an end when the suspect bailed out of his vehicle and was tackled by a police dog.
The chase started around 10:35 a.m. Wednesday on the feeder road of the Eastex Freeway near Collingsworth, just south of the 610 Loop. Houston Police say they tried to pull over an older model green Toyota Camry.
At least two people were inside the sedan as it sped from officers. Police radio traffic indicated the driver led officers north along Highway 59, at one point traveling in the wrong direction and taking to a grass median to avoid spike strips.
A woman safely bailed out of the vehicle and was apprehended as the driver kept going just south of the North Sam Houston Parkway.
The chase came to an end before 11 a.m. on Aeropark Drive at Crosswind Drive when the man pulled over and jumped from the car.
A police dog took down the suspect, allowing police to apprehend him without further incident.
The man was placed in handcuffs and treated at the scene for dog bite wounds. Aerial views from SkyFox showed the female passenger being questioned by officers. She was not placed in handcuffs.
It is not known why police tried to pull the pair over.
