HOUSTON - Katy ISD police say they arrested a high school student who brought a loaded gun on campus Friday.
Taylor High School administrators launched an investigation after they were notified by a student who heard a rumor about a classmate bringing a gun to campus, according to a school letter sent to parents.
During a search of the student's belongings, Katy ISD police and administrators found the loaded pistol, according to the letter.
The student was taken into police custody, and the district is pursuing the appropriate disciplinary action, according to the letter.
"I am also thankful for the student who first alerted us to the fact that there was a weapon on campus," Principal David Kendler said in the letter. "Students are often the first line of defense when it comes to keeping our school safe as they often have first-hand knowledge about what their classmates are doing. I ask that you use this incident today as a teachable moment with your child to help confirm with them the important role they play in keeping our school safe."
The letter also encouraged concerned parents to contact Kendler about the incident.
No other details were immediately available.
